Benefits of the NNMTA

Monthly Recitals: Performances are held on one Friday and Sunday of each month throughout most the year. Students can also perform in a Play-a-thon fundraiser for the organization in December.

Silver State Musikfest: This is a fundraiser performance in October. It is a non-competitive event for students of all ages and levels. Performers are offered evaluation critique including artistry, personal involvement, technical and musical accuracy, memorization, and stage etiquette. Performers receive a Certificate of Participation and a ribbon.

MTNA auditions: This is held in November for students at the state level of competition. It is held at the NNTMA State Convention. Winners then go on to the Southwest Division Competition to aspire toward the National level. Auditions are for the junior high, senior high, and collegiate levels.

Reno Youth Music Festival (est. 1975): This is a performance held in Spring for all piano students in the area. Prior to the Festival students take graded Theory Exams in February or April. Exams cover elements of performance, technique and theory. Results of exams must be a passing grade in order for the student to participate in the Festival. A Syllabus organizes piano repertoire into 12 successive levels including advanced Silver and Gold Medalist levels. Students who perform at the Festival receive ratings from qualified adjudicators. Those receiving "Superior" and "Superior with Distinction" ratings are requested to perform in a Command Performance Festival Recital.

NMTA offers members:

Local (NNMTA): A local network of general camaraderie for exchanging ideas, sorting issues and support in for teachers in the music field. Members receive a monthly newsletter containing information on events, current topics and ads for the music community. Continuing education at the local level consists of annual master classes, lectures, adjudication, festival workshops, teacher recitals and group discussions.

State (NMTA): Members may participate in annual NNMTA State Conventions held in Reno and Las Vegas on alternate years. This is a 2-day convention of lectures, master classes, meetings, recitals, concerts and technology. The State Convention is also a venue for teachers with students participating at the MTNA Junior and Senior State level competitions.

National (MTNA): The National Conference offers national certification. Programs and information for national certification is in the form of booklets, brochures, and the American Music Teacher journal every two months. MTNA also offers instrument insurance and liability packages as well as information on taxes and retirement. The Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) website contains information on becoming a local member of the NNTMA.
