The NNMTA State Code of Ethics adapted from the National Code of Ethics.
- To achieve uniformity and fair play in fiscal matters, we advocate:
- Working toward the goal of collecting tuition fees in advance.
- Charging fees that are no lower than the average in the community.
- Refusing to enroll a pupil of another teacher, unless the pupil's financial obligations to the former teacher have been satisfied,
and relations with that teacher have been severed.
- To avoid unfair competitive practices, we advocate:
- Refraining from advertising falsely regarding one's training and experience, and regarding the accomplishments of students.
- Discouraging the pupils of other teachers from visiting our studios, and never inviting or permitting such pupils to perform in
our studios or recitals without the consent of the teachers concerned.
- Refraining from soliciting the pupils of other teachers directly or indirectly.
- Refraining from presenting a pupil of a former teacher in a general recital before at least three months of study have been completed,
or in a solo recital, contest or audition before six (6) months of study have been completed, except pupils of teachers who have moved from one
community to another, or pupils who have just enrolled in college. In the latter cases, recognition of the previous teacher should always be
given.
- Relying upon our professional qualifications to attract pupils, and avoiding the use of our position in the community, school or
church as a means of recruiting students.
- Maintaining a dignified silence regarding the work of other teachers, unless that which we say is commendable.
- Refraining from writing or publishing for public media, and review of criticisms of colleagues\' or their students' performances for
any purpose whatsoever.
- To promote and maintain more beneficial public and professional relations, we advocate:
- Encouraging our students to participate in civic, church and school activities.
- Participating as fully as possible in our local, district, state, division and national MTA activities.
- Each member must always conduct himself/herself in a manner reflecting professionalism at all times in the artistic activities of the
organization.
- Any member who does not abide by the Code of Ethics will be, first, warned of his behavior; the second offense grants
automatic suspension or possible termination by the Executive Board. List of reasons for suspension or termination:
- Obstructing progress in business meetings.
- Violating the code of ethics.
- Misconduct of one's self professionally at any NMTA or local association activity.
- Lack of cooperation with the majority vote on motions at any scheduled meetings.
- Committing a crime involving a sexual or other abuse of a person. (Subsection E. will result in an investigation by the National Board,
hence immediate suspension and possible termination.)
